The earlier form of wet grinder called "Attan Kallu" used mechanical energy in which the user has to rotate the top stone called "Kullavi" to grind the medium. The invention of electricity has led to the development of electric-powered wet grinders. By this invention, the powered wet grinders have both the top and the base stone rotating. These electric models were first introduced in restaurants and later moved into the home.
Most modern models still have stone components for the grinding action. The stone is usually granite stone. The old manual grinding stones used to be refinished for better results. Modern stones usually don't need refinishing and they last much longer. However, despite these advances in bringing modern engineering into Indian kitchens, there are limitations. A few companies have been noticed to manufacture inferior products that are not robust enough and often fail. This forces the consumer to go back to the old-fashion grinding stone. A meat grinder or meat mincer is a kitchen appliance for grinding, fine mincing or mixing raw or cooked meat, fish, vegetables or similar food. It replaces tools like the mincing knife, for example, which has been used to produce minced meat, filling etc. The producer puts the minced food into a funnel, which is placed on the top of the grinder. From there the material goes on a horizontal screw conveyor. This screw conveyor, that can be powered by a hand wheel or an electric motor, squashes and partially mixes the food. At the end of the screw conveyor there is a knife installed directly in front of the fixed hole plate. At this opening the minced meat comes out of the machine. The fineness of the meat depends on the size of the holes of the plate.
