TCS established the first software research center in India, the Tata Research Development and Design Center, in Pune, India in 1981.TRDDC undertakes research in Software Engineering, Process Engineering and Systems Research. Researchers at TRDDC also developed MasterCraft (now called TCS Code Generator Framework) an artificial intelligence software that can automatically create code from a simple computer language, and rewrite the code based on the user's needs. TCS has set up the Advanced Technology Center in the city of Hyderabad, the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh, which is emerging as one of the hubs of India's rapidly growing and world-renowned IT industry.
ATC is part of the corporate R&D activity of TCS, and complements the R&D activities undertaken by the (TRDDC) Tata Research, Design and Development Center located in the city of Pune. Advanced Technology Center is carrying out research and development in several areas broadly related to secure communication, encryption, and associated activities. ATC has designed a complete Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for issuing digital certificates, generation and verification of digital signatures, and other related aspects of secure transactions. On the basis of this technology developed in ATC, TCS has applied to the Ministry of Information Technology for recognition as a Certifying Authority (CA) under the Indian IT Act 2000.
