Proof Reader

We offer detailed analysis of the work, including improvements to the overall structure, characters and dialogue. We will indicate inconsistences across all areas, such as shifts in tone as well as overstatement or areas where the meaning is unclear or there is potential to go further. We will also highlight strengths of the writing and suggest ways that these could be used to greater advantage. For works up to 5000 words long you will receive up to 3 pages of typed notes and constructive suggestions. You may send us either a short story or up to 5000 word of your novel. For longer works you will receive up to 10 pages, which is the maximum amount of written feedback for a full novel manuscript.

This service offers exactly the same benefits listed above plus full line editing with explanations for our changes, including tonal irregularities, character inconsistency, lack of subtletly etc. alongside suggestions for how the point you are making with these lines might be better illustrated, based on our understanding of your writing technique. This is the kind of help you could expect from an agent or publisher only with the added benefit of receiving reasons for these decisions so that you are well placed to see if you agree and, if so, to learn how to avoid the same problems next time. All changes will be tracked on the document and you may choose whether to accept or reject them.

For those who want polishing or for whom spelling, punctuation and grammar are weaknesses, we offer a thorough reading and correction service. We will also highlight inconsistencies, such as a character's name spelt in two different ways etc.Where we feel that incorrect grammar or spelling is deliberate and part of your style but is perhaps coming across as a mistake or ambiguous we will make suggestions for an improved way of getting across the same sense.

As we are keen to inspire new talent, as well as providing constructive feedback we will tell you honestly if we think your work is ready to go to an agent, publisher or publication. However, we make no guarantees that your work will be taken on by an agency or will be published. This said, if we like your work we can offer to suggest an agent for you to contact or that you send your work to a magazaine as we have good links in publishing. However, we will not accept requests for this and will only suggest it to you as a result of one of the feedback services above.
